Start­ing on the 10^th anniver­sary, a trib­ute wine has been cre­at­ed every year, blend­ing the best bar­rels of dis­tinc­tive vari­etal lots togeth­er from a sin­gle vin­tage, to make a com­pelling blend. The anniver­sary blend is a reward­ing wine to craft each year. The vari­eties and ratios are nev­er the same though the con­cep­tu­al style is. I feel describ­ing it is as impor­tant as explain­ing how the blend was made. I want each anniver­sary blend to be rep­re­sen­ta­tive of the red wine style we do best; a ​“house style” if you will. It becomes auto­mat­ic to want to use vari­eties that are impor­tant to us or ones that did very well in the vin­tage. The goal is not to make a big tan­nic wine, nor one with long oak aging, but rather one that has ​“bright” fla­vors with suf­fi­cient depth and com­plex­i­ty. A wine that can stand alone or as a com­ple­ment to food. Typ­i­cal­ly, the blend is made 14 – 18 months post vini­fi­ca­tion of the indi­vid­ual com­po­nents; after some aging has tak­en place and each com­po­nen­t’s poten­tial revealed.
